Sustainable Development of Amazonia
Today the Amazonia region faces an enormous challenge: how to balance economic growth with the preservation of the Amazon rainforest. In the Amazonia region, general policy based on sustainable development must be adopted to counterbalance natural conservation and the needs of people. To discuss and monitor the regional development requires a significant variety of spatial data. Governments and commercial businesses worldwide increasingly need up-to-date, specific information about geographic areas of interest to make informed, accurate decisions. Today, this information comes in the form of remotely sensed imagery, which provides essential data about virtually anything occurring on the Earth’s surface and is used in applications ranging from disaster response to environmental conservation. The detailed geographic information using geospatial technology that extracts critical information with the accurate information needed to make important decisions.
The seminar will discuss:
- technology for sustainable development, fight against poverty and improvement in the quality of life of its citizens
- geospatial technology for developing environmentally sustainable community-based activities
- Ways to promote the preservation of the Amazon Basin and regulate Amazonian development
